ā€5 charts that put market volatility in perspective Ā
ā€
In "5 Charts That Put Market Volatility in Perspective," Capital Group notes that recent market volatility, heightened in part by geopolitical tensions surrounding the war in Iran and its impact on energy prices and inflation, reflects a familiar pattern of short-term disruption rather than a departure from long-term market behavior. Using historical data, the article shows that pullbacks are common but rarely evolve into prolonged bear markets and that recoveries often follow even severe declines. It emphasizes that bear markets tend to be shorter than bull markets, most calendar years still produce positive returns and that attempts to time the market frequently detract from performance and reinforce the importance of maintaining a disciplined, diversified, long-term investment approach despite periods of elevated uncertainty.

The trajectory of the Artemis IIĀ moon mission is a feat of engineering

The Artemis II Moon Mission was a marvel of science that was more than a decade in the making. For NASA's first crewed lunar mission in over 50 years, Artemis II's path was carefully engineered to maximize safety, efficiency and mission objectives rather than simply taking a direct route to the Moon. The spacecraft followed a complex 'free-return' trajectory, looping around the Moon and using gravitational forces from both Earth and the Moon to guide it back home, while also traveling farther into space than any humans before, including a distant flyby that extends well beyond the lunar orbit. This approach allowed NASA to test critical systems, communications and navigation in deep space while ensuring a built-in return path in case of failure, underscoring how modern space exploration relies as much on precision physics and risk management as on raw technological power.
