Volunteering at Mesirow
Paul Blumberg, along with his wife Lisa, joined other Mesirow employees for the third annual Richard Mesirow day. Together employees packed over 450 “Boredom Buster Bags” for Highwood Public Library, and afterwards the bags were distributed to youth in the Highwood area. Richard Mesirow day is a day we take to remember and carry on the philanthropic legacy that Richard left on the firm.

Law seminar
The Lake County Bar Association’s Family Law Seminar was held in late October ’23. Jim Gaines was featured as one of the presenters, providing training for attorneys on a variety of financial topics from how to start saving to taxable investment accounts.

Fundraising
David, Paul and Jim recently helped sponsor a fundraising event for Dare2Tri, a non-profit organization committed to removing barriers to sports and fitness. Dare2Tri encourages recreation, racing, and competition, while also cultivating a sense of community for all athletes, who are not labeled by physical ability, but rather their determination and will to succeed. Let no one sit on the sidelines
Mesirow is supporting GLASA (Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association) through the community efforts of Paul Blumberg, who coached GLASA Falcons Sled Hockey in Lake Bluff. From weekly practice sessions, to games against neighboring teams, to national tournaments, Paul shares his lifelong passion for hockey with these Chicagoland teenagers to teach them not only about the sport and sportsmanship, but also important life lessons and skills that will play a crucial role throughout their lives.
GLASA’s mission “Let no one sit on the sidelines” focusses on empowering youth, adults, and injured military personal with physical and visual disabilities to be healthy and active through sports and recreation participation.

Dream big. Think big.
For many, a college education is a given. For others, it is only a dream. That is why many years ago Paul Blumberg and a handful of other sponsors founded Dream Associates (local chapter of I Have A Dream). Paul and other volunteers have tutored and mentored 30 North Chicago “Dreamers” from kindergarten through high school, and then on to college.
Although graduation looms, with high fives for all, Paul and his friends know that there will be new hurdles to overcome, like finding a job. He and others will continue to mentor these graduates, to help them continue their journey.
“I Have A Dream” empowers children to achieve higher education and fulfill their leadership potential by providing them with guaranteed tuition support and equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and habits they need to gain entry to higher education and succeed in college and beyond.
